SpongeBob SquarePants, this year's Christmas special: get a first look

SpongeBob's Christmas episode is arguably one of the most memorable in history! Currently celebrating 25 years since the first episode aired on Nickelodeon, SpongeBob is gaining momentum with fun new projects and collaborations, such as the acquisition of Wendy's. Over the years, SpongeBob has been the subject of spin-offs, feature films, video games, specials and more. Now he's moving into a whole new dimension.

Paramount and Nickelodeon have announced a new Christmas special for SpongeBob. The new special, titled Sponge Bob & Sandy's Country Christmas, will air this December on Nickelodeon and Paramount+, and will be made entirely of stop-motion animation. Nickelodeon has released the first clip of the upcoming SpongeBob SquarePants holiday special in stop-motion animation to show what the new movie will actually look like.

Christmas in SpongeBob and Sandy's Village” will air this December on Nickelodeon and Paramount+. It's a half-hour special that will bring back the extended Sandy family that debuted in the recently released “Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Chicks Movie” on Netflix: Craig Robinson as Daddy Chicks, Randy Chicks as Johnny Knoxville and Gray Delisle as Mama Chicks, Grandma Chicks, Rosie and Rowdy Chicks. Each family member will reprise their roles and return in a new holiday special.

In honor of SpongeBob SquarePants' 25th anniversary, Nickelodeon has prepared more than just a new Christmas special. At a special franchise panel at New York Comic-Con 2024, it was also announced that the spin-off series “The Patrick Starr Show” is a huge success and that seasons 4 and 5 are in the works. Season 3 of the animated series just premiered as part of Nickelodeon's holiday special, making this renewal a great moment for the entire franchise.

What's next for SpongeBob SquarePants?

In late November, a new SpongeBob movie, “Yellow Snowball and the Seven Jellies,” will be released on Nickelodeon. It's another special celebrating the 25th anniversary of the animated series, reimagining the classic tale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs into a new story about SpongeBob and his friends. In addition, another feature film is currently in production and will be released in late 2025.

The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants is scheduled for release on December 19, 2025. The movie's plot provides few details on what to expect, but it has been confirmed that SpongeBob will be dealing with the ghost of the Flying Dutchman and that he will be voiced by Star Wars and Regular Show star Mark Hamill (he's also currently He's also set to return for the Regular Show sequel (rumored to be called Regular Show: The Lost Records), which is currently in production.) However, as the 25th anniversary celebrations continue, there will obviously be more SpongeBob movies in the future.
