"DC" Anime Series To Be Considered for Cartoon Network
Some of the greatest heroes in the world have been produced by DC Comics for many years, and these rising stars are eager to try new things. We have seen DC do it all, from television crossovers to Hollywood blockbusters. These days, the company is beginning to delve further into the anime industry, and according to a recent source, Warner Bros. Discovery is considering a new project for its DC icons. The news was released by Warner Bros. Discovery directly, as the media company recently posted a new job opening. The company claims that SuperMutant Magic Academy, which is being marketed as an action comedy anime, is in need of production assistance. Thus, if you're interested in seeing what Warner Bros.
WHAT IS THE NEXT BIG DC ANIME?
Warner Bros. Discovery is reportedly looking to develop a new children's action series that is akin to a DC anime series. This project is currently known as SuperMutant Magic Academy, and Cartoon Network is anticipated to premiere it. Based on the article, it looks like production on the series will start in January or February of 2025. In addition to its internship program, SuperMutant Magic Academy is seeking directors and story artists that possess a solid understanding of anime action beats. Prior anime experience is not a prerequisite.
Other than these fresh job advertising, little is known about this anime title. SuperMutant Magic Academy is still in progress, but the overall order isn't very surprising. Earlier this year, executives at Warner Bros. Discovery expressed their want to "significantly" expand their anime properties. It makes sense for the corporation to combine its significant IPs with an anime production, as we've seen recently.
According to the most recent job posting, Cartoon Network is eager to get started on its DC animation, although this project may not be about superheroes. The Warner Bros. Discovery team wants to create a DC anime-style title, which does not imply that it will be a DC IP. SuperMutant Magic Academy is a standalone comic that exists outside of DC, therefore netizens are divided. Some assume this project will adapt a popular comic, while others say it is a codename. In any case, Warner Bros. Discovery's anime push demonstrates its commitment to the medium.
THE RECENT RISE OF SUPERHERO ANIMATION SERIES
After all, DC has recently experienced significant success with anime. Its work with Teen Titans several years ago lay the groundwork for the industry's recent (and long-overdue) resurgence. A number of popular anime titles, including Batman Ninja and Suicide Squad Isekai, have recently gone live for DC. My Adventures with Superman was another recent success for Warner Bros. Discovery, as the anime-inspired series received high praise. And soon, Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League will be available, along with a new form of Justice League.
Clearly, DC is spending extensively in anime these days, and this move comes as no surprise. After all, the corporation has a long history in anime and manga. Jiro Kuwata, a Japanese artist, wrote a popular Batman manga in the 1960s, which was released in America in 2008. DC is no stranger to the anime industry, with titles ranging from Batman: Child of Dreams to Batman: Gotham Knight to DC Super Heroes vs. Eagle Talon. And with this latest job opening, it appears that Warner Bros. Discovery is eager to maintain its commitment.
